‘JEMurakami,’ by Tanavit23 — Online Release This Friday, July 2!

Tanavit23’s JEMurakami will see an online release this Friday!

Tanavit collectors everywhere, rejoice! JEMurakami, originally dropped in-person at Alohacon 2021, will be seeing an online release very soon! That’s right, those who weren’t lucky enough to journey to the paradise city of Honolulu will still be able to +1 their JEM collection (JEMlection? JEMollection??).

JEMurakami is the newest JEM sculpt to join Tanavit23’s portfolio. Inspired by his namesake, Takashi Murakami, JEMurakami pays homage to Split, Murakami’s hyper-realistic 2012 sculpture.

An edition of 2, Split is a life-sized self-portrait of the pop artist erupting from himself. Split sports hairy feet, Buddhist robes, and four, swirling robotic eyes.

Itself inspired by a wooden, Heian-era Buddhist statue from Saionji Temple in Kyoto, Japan, Split would go on to inspire Billie Eilish and Murakami’s collaborative project for Vice‘s GARAGE, and now, Tanavit23’s JEMurakami!

JEMurakami is a 4.5-inch resin homage with Buddhist robes and a mudra (hand gesture) much like Split. Rather than hairy feet, he has triple-striped camo kicks for hypebeast appeal. He’s also got that unmistakable JEM crown and enigmatic JEM smile.

JEMurakami will retail for $110 and will be released July 2 @ 11am EST / 11pm SGT in the Invasion Toys web shop (US based) and Tanavit23’s personal site (Singapore based).

JEMurakami is an edition of just 40 units, including those released at Alohacon 2021. That means these are incredibly limited, so move fast!
